2008 GOV Inspection a Success! A Great Year for KPD Mares and Foals

2008 GOV Inspection

It was a bumpy road to this year's German Oldenburg Verband (GOV) Mare & Foal Inspection, as administrative and scheduling issues presented a challenge. But in the end, we presented 15 horses at our inspection site in Manhattan, with an unprecedented number of premium foals and mares. It turned out to be a very successful year for Konza Prairie, and we cannot thank the participants enough for their patience and support.

In addition to the usual mare and foal in-hand inspection, KPD presented two of our young mares for their Mare Performance Tests, where they were evaluated on rideability, movement under saddle, and free jumping. We are very proud of Avatar and Bella for scoring premium mare status, with only 30 days under saddle! They both have exciting careers ahead of them in the show ring and in our breeding program.

Both of KPD's foals this year also walked away with premium status: Aladour and Ruby (pictured above). The inspectors were impressed with Aladour as a young stallion, and he remains a strong stallion candidate. We're excited to see both him and Ruby grow up.

Five other foals by our stallions were also presented and approved, and nearly all of them were awarded premium status. We are so pleased to see the best of Galeno Tyme and Alaska Tyme in their offspring, as they continue to produce exceptional foals. Congratulations to all the breeders and owners of these foals, and thank you for breeding to KPD stallions.

Many thanks to Earl Lenhert for the use of High Horse Stables, his beautiful facility in Manhattan, Kansas. Thanks also to the Oldenburg Horse Breeder's Society and the GOV's examiners from Germany for their patience and knowledge.

As always, we encourage and support breeders who aim to expand their knowledge and better the breed. If you would like more information on the inspection and registration process, please contact us for details. Thank you to everyone who participated, and we look forward to another great crop next year!

Face Lift!

Screenshot - KPD Website

Wohoo! Konza Prairie's website is finally updated. We've got a whole new look, lots of new features, and pictures to spare. Each horse now has its own page with lineage information, photos of all stages of their development, and full breeding information. You'll find videos available for download on each of the stallions' pages, as well as links to new photo galleries. Be sure to visit the "Heritage/Offspring" pages for each stallion to see and learn about the many amazing horses in the boys' past (lineage) and future (offspring).

We continue to feature relevant articles on our Articles page (which you can find by clicking "About Us" above and using the side navigation). We've also added a few new links to the Links page (if you know of a great website or resource that you feel should be included on our Links page, please feel free to email the webmaster with suggestions).

We also now feature several horses in training within our clinic community. Many of these horses either came from our own breeding program or were joined with their owners with assistance from Jennifer Mosier. Keep an eye on how these horses and riders progress together with regular clinics from Jeni. Just click on "Horses" at the top of the page and use the side navigation to find "Horses in Training."

Thank you for your patience while we've worked on this latest website upgrade. We hope the result is worth it, and are excited to bring you the most current information on Konza Prairie Dressage. As always, if you have any questions regarding the website, please email our webmaster and she will respond to you as soon as possible.

Two New Articles Added

Two new articles have been added to the Articles page: "Rubinstein—A Jewel In Breeding" outlines the legacy and lineage of the late stallion Rubinstein. Rubinstein shares a grandsire, Romadour II, with our own Alaska Tyme, and the article traces all of the qualities and success we find so promising in Alaska's lineage. Rubinstein was also the grandsire of one of our mares, Recife, and the R-line is very strong throughout both sides of her lineage.

The second article, "New Short Test for Stallions," describes the new format of the Stallion Performance Short Testing for the ISR-Oldenburg N.A. This article outlines what has changed, and provides a breakdown of the new testing format.

Lincoln Clinics Geared Toward Grand Prix

Lincoln Clinics

Our group of riders who regularly participate in Jennifer Mosier's monthly clinics at Falkland Stables in Lincoln, Nebraska, are climbing the levels. We have an unusually high number of gifted riders with top quality horses; we have been building this foundation of star-quality horses for the last several years, buying them young and training them correctly from the start. As part of the Konza Prairie training program, these riders are all schooling with an eye on Grand Prix. Having that many focused and collaborative riders in one place allows them to learn from each other while training their horses and becoming better riders and trainers.

It's an exciting time to be a rider at Falkland. Upcoming show seasons (in the next year or two) will see many successful upper level horses. If you're in the Lincoln area and are interested in participating in or auditing the clinics, please call for details.

Sara Novotny and Fan

October 7, 2007
Congratulations Sara Novotny on the Purchase of Fangio

Congratulations to the Novotny family of Lincoln, Nebraska, on the purchase of Konza Prairie's longtime schoolmaster, Fangio. Fangio is a 10-year old Hannoverian by Feiner Graf who is trained to Prix St. Georges dressage. He has been the teacher of many Konza Prairie working students, and we are thrilled that he now has his own person in young rider Sara Novotny. They make a great pair, and we are very excited to see them train and compete.

Another Successful Breeding Inspection (Mares and Foals) for 2007

Konza Prairie was host to the Oldenburg Mare and Foal Inspection in Abilene, Kansas, this year—and it was a great success. Several foals and mares were presented and approved, including Alegria and Rosali, both of whom are going to be promising young fillies. Hosting the Inspection is a lot of work, but it's a wonderful learning opportunity for our young riders (who were kind enough to help out) and a great way to see the breeding system first-hand.

As always, we encourage and support breeders who aim to expand their knowledge and better the breed. If you would like more information on the Inspection and registration process, please contact us for details. Thank you to everyone who participated, and we look forward to another great crop next year!

Trip to Germany for Stallion Testing—A Great Experience

Jennifer Mosier (Konza Prairie Dressage), Dara Liss and Sydney Page (Esprit De Corps) were fortunate enough to go to Germany this November for the Stallion Testing with Holly Simensen. Thank you, Holly! It was a wonderful opportunity to see many amazing young European stallions and continue our research into breeding strategies as new talents enter the ring. We've got our eye on some promising new names in the community, and we're looking forward to incorporating them into our breeding program. We had a wonderful time in Germany and hope to return soon!

2006 Breeding Inspection (Mare and Foals) a Success

2006 Foal Testing

The first crop of foals for both stallions was very well accepted at this year's Mare and Foal Inspection in Manhattan, Kansas. We had many premium foals, including Attary Time and Daiquiri from Konza Prairie. Galeno consistently passes on elasticity, personality, power, and a lovely head and neck. Alaska is passing on type and appearance, and is producing some very impressive foals. In just one foal crop, we are seeing that dressage mares are getting great dressage movement, hunter mares are getting great hunter movement, etc. Pick your discipline, and you won't be disappointed.

Daiquiri, Alaska's foal out of Dolce Fairie (by De Niro) was a "10" across the board and we are very excited to see her grow up.

It was a great Inspection this year, and our thanks go to Earl Lenhert for hosting it. There were many beautiful mares and foals from farms across the region, and we are pleased to see our local breeding program improving with each year. We encourage and support breeders who aim to expand their knowledge and better the breed. If you would like more information on the Inspection and registration process, please contact us for details.

Gershwin

July 24, 2006
Congratulations Sharon O'Brien on the Purchase of Gershwin

Congratulations to Sharon O'Brien of Omaha, Nebraska, on the purchase of Gershwin from Konza Prairie Dressage. Gershwin is a 2003 Oldenburg/Thoroughbred gelding by Galeno Tyme. Gershwin's dam, Shades of Genius, was the product of a $100,000 stud fee from the stallion Flying Taps. This extraordinary young gelding promises to live up to the stellar movement he inherited from his sire. Sharon's plans for Gershwin are to train up the levels in dressage.

Bayly at four years old

October 2005
Congratulations Betsy Bobenhouse on the Purchase of Lyricon ("Bayly")

Congratulations to Betsy Bobenhouse of Lincoln, Nebraska, on the purchase of Lyricon ("Bayly") from Blair Cudmore in Omaha, Nebraska. Bayly is an unbroke 2001 Holsteiner gelding. Bayly's sire is Livingstone, whose sire is the famous Landgraf I. Bayly's dam is a Dutch Warmblood, Allie, by Omen. Betsy's plans for Bayly are to train him up the levels and ultimately to show him at upper level dressage. Congratulations, Betsy, on your new partner!

Jane Fucinaro and Callisto

October 2005
Congratulations Jane Fucinaro on the Purchase of Callisto

Congratulations to Jane Fucinaro of Omaha, Nebraska, on the purchase of Callisto from Konza Prairie Dressage. Callisto is a 2000 Oldenburg mare by Cooperit, out of Geranda/Barsoi xx. Callisto's old-fashioned type appealed to Jane and her family, who have worked with Morgans for many years. Her natural strength and dynamic gaits make her a great choice for Jane to begin working toward her goals of international competition. They make a great pair, and we're excited to see their career develop. Congratulations, Jane!

Evi Strasser Puts in a Surprise World Cup Performance

Congratulations to our friend, Evi Strasser, for her surprise performance in the 2005 World Cup Dressage Finals in Las Vegas! Evi was already in Las Vegas to ride in the Invitational, but at the last minute was given the opportunity to compete in the Finals when Germany's Isabell Werth withdrew from her position, and Anthony FRH did not pass the initial jog. Evi and Quantum Tyme were the first to ride in Friday's Grand Prix competition, earning 67.333%. In Saturday's consolation Freestyle, the pair earned 70.075%.

"I had a super ride. He really coped with the situation,” says Strasser. “We were supposed to be riding Friday in the Grand Prix. I got notice just Wednesday morning that we would be in the World Cup. Starting first is always difficult, but I'm very proud of my horse. I didn't back off when I went in the ring and he rose to the occasion. He totally played his part.”

Galeno Tyme Wins the 2004 North American Stallion Testing!

Galeno Tyme - 2004 Stallion Testing

We are very proud of our boy, Galeno Tyme, for winning the 2004 100-Day Stallion Test (by the Federation of North American Sport Horse Registries) in Batavia, Ohio. We are thrilled with his performance, and pleased to announce that even with a 5-point age handicap deduction, he received a record-setting overall score of 155.87, the highest score in the history of the North American testing, and the third highest score world-wide! You can learn more about Galeno Tyme on his stallion page, and read about his extraordinary test in several articles from national magazines posted on our articles page.

We had a lot of fun at the Stallion Testing this year, where we saw so many horses of amazing caliber presented amidst gorgeous testing facilities. The stallion owners were gracious and friendly, and the staff at Paxton Farm was amazing. The farm staff and the German team riders kept our horses safe and healthy and treated them with respect. It's nerve-wracking to leave your stallion in the hands of strangers, and the skilled staff gave us some much-needed peace of mind. We couldn't be more pleased with our Testing experience, and we hope to be back in 2006 with Alaska Tyme.

Qual Grand Plaisir

October 2003
Congratulations Peggy Harris on the Purchase of
Quel Grand Plaisir

Congratulations to Peggy Harris of Omaha, Nebraska, on the purchase of Quel Grand Plaisir from Lee Verdier in Quebec, Canada. "Q" is a 1999 Oldenburg gelding imported from Europe. Q's sire is Quattro B, who also sired Carol Lavell's horse Much Ado and Evi Strasser's Quantum Tyme. Peggy's plans for Q are ultimately to show him at upper level dressage.
